International dance evening to be hosted

There will be performers demonstrating Greek, Spanish, Serbian, Indian and Irish dances

AFRIKAANSE Volkspele is celebrating its 100th year at Curro Serengeti Academy on May 30.

The hall will be filled with music from all over Europe together with a little touch of local folk music.

Started in 2012, the local folk dancers established contact with some of the early origins of Afrikaans dance forms from Europe. This is the third year in succession and promised to be the best.

Western and European dance forms are still very popular with South Africans and they just love to sing and dance.

The colourful dresses make beautiful displays. In most cases, there are foreigners involved but in some instances, the passionate dancers are South Africans that study and practice these dance forms for good exercise and social interaction.

National and international competitions are regularly held to benchmark the various clubs and to determine the best dancers in the country.

Groups from all over Gauteng are expected. There will be performers demonstrating Greek, Spanish, Serbian, Indian and Irish dances. Afrikaanse Volkspele will ensure the visitors see some tiekiedraai and mazurka moves.

The evening is open to the public. The entrance fee is R30 and includes refreshments during interval.

Book your seat with Saamstaan Volkspelelaer on annabe@absamail.co.za. Tickets will also be available at the door.

The evening will start at 7pm for 7.30pm.
