Month of Jokes at Emperors Palace
Every show will be held in the revamped Theatre of Marcellus, which offers guests vastly improved sight lines with plush, fixed seating for an enhanced show experience
With a side-splitting line-up of top South African comedians on the bill, Emperors Palace is the place to be for jokes this July.
Leading the charge is the hilarious comedian and actor, Trevor Gumbi, who will be pushing the boundaries past the point of no return on Saturday, July 5.
While Gumbi, a SAFTA nominated actor who is currently on the local drama series Rockville, has most recently spent his time directing and writing for local television shows, comedy has always been his true love.
In fact, he enjoys it so much that he’s gathered some comedian friends for a seven-city tour of South Africa. The first of his shows, featuring the ever popular Celeste Nthuli, Mpho Popps, Chris Mapane and Griff from the USA, takes place at Emperors Palace and promises to be nothing short of hilarious!
The go-to guy for husbands everywhere, Stuart Taylor, is next up on July 12 with Learner Husband, the definitive relationship crash course for the modern South African man.
Following sold out seasons and rave reviews around the country, audiences kept begging for more of his step-by-step programme which prepares men to survive the most perilous of all tests … marriage! Described as “a delightful, often hilarious and always insightful one-man show”, Taylor will teach husbands how to get it right.
Whether you’re married, engaged or even thinking of getting married, you don’t want to get behind the wheel until you’ve seen this show.
The enigmatic and charismatic Karou Charou is back at Emperors Palace on July 13 and he’s bigger and bolder than ever before. His brand new one man show diverges wildly from his series of family friendly shows, which means that this show is not for the faint of heart!
His return to his brash, unapologetic best, with no sacred cows and no holds barred, entertains the audience for the entire 90 minutes in his comical roller coaster ride. Karou is a master of entertainment, wandering off stage to engage in unscripted yet hilarious banter with the audience.
The final instalment of July’s Jokers comes on July 18 and 19, when the Palace of Dreams will face a Zulu ukuhlasela that will have the East Rand shaking and quaking with laughter.
99% Zulu Comedy, SA’s number one, vernacular stand-up comedy show, will feature a tribe of master comedians, all of whom will leave their individual rib-tickling stamp on this evening that akumelwe lingabi nawo! Guests can expect satirical perceptions on a range of social and political issues, intelligent wit and relevant humour packaged in a hleka and their home-grown dialect as a way of contributing to the preservation of indigenous languages and African pride.
Every show will be held in the revamped Theatre of Marcellus, which offers guests vastly improved sight lines with plush, fixed seating for an enhanced show experience.
Show tickets start from R150 a person and can be booked through the Emperors Palace Box Office on 011 928 1297/1213, on www.emperorspalace.com or through Computicket on www.computicket.com. No children under the age of 10 will be permitted.
