Rock band hopes to pave the way for future musicians
Parts and Fiction is an alternative rock music band who is set to launch their debut album on Saturday
PARTS and Fiction is a five-member band comprising young musicians who are all passionate about music.
The band will launch their first album on Saturday, says the Kempton Park based drummer of the band, Rikus De la Guerra.
While De la Guerra does not have any musical qualification, most of the band members, he says, boast music degrees.
“There is only one leading lady in the band, Miqnon van Jaarsveld, and this is not because she is beautiful, although it is a bonus for the band,” says De la Guerra.
“She has an exceptional voice and amazing musical talent.”
Van Jaarsveld and Reineke van der Merwe are the talented lead vocalists and also compose original songs for the band. The two have been dating for two years, adding to the spark of their musical creativity.
On the strings is lead guitarist Pieter Dawid du Plessis, popularly known as PD, and heavily tattooed bassist, Sarel Reynolds.
De la Guerra describes the coming together of the five as destiny.
“Most of us have participated in the same shows, competitions and events all our lives; we just used to play for different bands,” explains De la Guerra.
“While doing session work for the Barnyard Theatres I think that’s when it all really took off. We initially started a cover band to play some corporate events and on boat cruises, but we fast realised this was much bigger than a mere cover band, and so, Parts and Fiction was born.”
The band hopes to tour the world and have more of their albums on music store shelves.
“In future we want to be doing pretty much the same thing we are doing now, just up scaled to the level somewhere between a volcanic eruption and world domination,” he jokes.
Each member of the band brings forward their own flavour to the mix but all share a love for Rock music, especially on the heavier side of the genre.
During the recording of their album, the band shared the stage with Jack Parow in George.
The band’s goal is to be remembered as one of the hardest working and most dedicated bands of their time.
“We appreciate all the help we can get from fellow friends and bands and we are grateful for all the sponsors and people who believe in us. We want to simply be the best in all the ways we can and to significantly boost the South African music industry, to better pave the way for countless artists, musicians and generations to come.“
