Event will showcase new talent
The event will create a platform for Ekurhuleni artists to showcase their talent and possibly snatch a recording deal or booking for a gig
ARTISTS from around Ekurhuleni will showcase their talent at an annual talent recruit show at Kempton Park Civic Centre on November 1 from noon until 7pm.
The event will be hosted by Kempton Park’s Rockaz Youth Performing Arts and Events organisation and will, according to organiser Tumisang Tsotetsi (23), showcase dancers, poets, actors and motivational speakers to name a few.
“The purpose of this event is to give upcoming artists around Ekurhuleni a marketing platform to perform, gain exposure and meet potential clients who might want to book them,” she explained.
Tsotetsi said the event would form part of a line-up of activities in a programme aimed at getting young people occupied and off the streets.
Rockaz Youth Performing Arts and Events was founded in 2009 by Zukie Pali (36). Tsotetsi later came on board and is now the CEO of the non-profit organisation.
Rockaz, as they call the organisation, has artists between the ages of 13 and 30 in various entertainment fields. The organisation is called upon to provide entertainment for various events.
“We sort of manage the artists and give them something productive to do with their lives,” added Tsotetsi.
“Rockaz has had the privilege of performing during the World Cup in one of the FIFA fan parks, Dries Niemandt, Sibikwa Arts Festival and the grand opening of Birch Acres Mall in Tembisa, just to mention a few of our highlights.”
Various stakeholders have been invited to attend the talent show and scout for talent. These include record label owners.
MC for the show will be East Rand born actor, Kegiso Medupe, who plays Mangi on E TV’s soap Scandal.
Tsotetsi wants to see less teen pregnancies and for young people not to give up on achieving their goals.
“We hope to see all the kids running out of hope getting their breakthrough and doing what they love and are talented to do,” she further added.
Tsotetsi works at a bank as a consultant but is also an aspiring dancer and singer. This explains her passion for the arts.
Guests can expect her to also perform on the day.
“We are expecting about 1 000 people and we would be honoured to have as much support as we can for this event, whose nature is to build the youth of society by giving them hope in achieving their dreams for the future.”
The entrance fee for the event is R60. If you would like to perform or want more details, call Tsotetsi on 078-174-1886.
