Carnival City gears up to host SA Idols auditions in March
Idols SA season 11 is here, enter now!
CARNIVAL City is gearing up for an influx of emerging singers set to descend on the complex for the Gauteng round of auditions for Idols SA Season 11.
This will be the second year that Carnival City has provided a stage for the thousands of hopefuls auditioning for the ever-popular talent competition.
The auditions will take place from 8am on March 1 at Carnival City’s Big Top Arena.
Contestants should be South African citizens between the ages of 16 and 30 to enter Idols SA 11, and South Africa’s aspiring superstars are urged to remember their ID documents at the auditions. Under age contestants have to be accompanied by their parents.
These will be the final auditions in the preliminary leg of the competition. Auditions have been taking place in Pretoria, Durban and Cape Town since the end of January.
“We are thrilled to play host to the Idols SA auditions again this year and expect throngs of performers lining up to show the judges what they are made of,” says Michelle Smith, marketing manager at Carnival City.
For over a decade, the South African version of Idols has been one of the country’s biggest shows, always full of spice, scandal and above all, super singing. The show’s forte is forging superstars from raw talent and it has consistently launched the boys and girls next door to the top of the pop charts.
From Season 1’s Heinz Winckler, to Brandon October, Elvis Blue and Lloyd Cele (who won SAMA’s in 2012) to Khaya Mthetwa (who walked away with his first SAMA for his debut album, Move), many previous Idols contenders are carving out lucrative careers for themselves.
SA Idols shattered records in Season 10 last year, with over 20 million votes cast across the duration of the season, a 173% increase on Season 9 figures!
