Get down to Dries Niemandt for an urban picnic

The event is free before 6pm and R50 thereafter

URBAN Picnic will take place on March 28 at Dries Niemandt Park from noon and is set to entertain crowds with 25 local DJs and 10 live entertainers.

Two DJs from YFM can also be expected.

The event is being organised by Gray Scale Events, a company made up of five members all under the age of 25.

This will be the first event for the five and they hope it will assist them in raising funds to invest into their company for future events.

“People must come and see local artists and just support the arts as a whole. There will also be free Wi-Fi throughout the day,” said founding member and organiser, Arnold Nkomo (21).

Nkomo said there was still space for artists who wished to perform on the day or rent a stall.

“We want to empower ourselves, host annual charity events, plan and facilitate events for businesses and just create a platform for local visual, dance and music artists so they can showcase their talent,” he added.

Nkomo said that even though the event was a party where they expected a lot of young people, the organisation promoted responsible youth behaviour and no under 18s would be allowed in.

Entrance is free until 6pm and R50 thereafter.
