Investigations are in progress trying to find the owners of the removed tombstones
THREE men, aged between 29 and 46, had been arrested on Tuesday for allegedly stealing tombstones at Mooifontein Cemetery.
Capt Lesibana Molokomme, spokesman for Norkem Park SAPS, said five tombstone blocks and pillars were found in a suspicious looking Venture when the vehicle was searched.
According to him members of Ekurhuleni Metro Police arrested the three around 2pm.
“The officers were stopped by security officers at the cemetery who pointed out a suspicious white Venture parked in the vicinity. Upon them searching the car, the suspected stolen goods were found,” Molokomme said.
Investigations are in progress trying to find the owners of the removed tombstones.
Norkem Park SAPS also arrested seven other suspects the past 24 hours.
