KEMPTON Park Junior Cricket Club’s Colts beat Alberton in the final of the Easterns league at Willowmoore Park on Sunday.
The Colts league was introduced three years ago and serves as a transition for young cricketers migrating from junior to senior ranks.
This division has proved immensely successful in nourishing talent under the Easterns Cricket Association’s banner with this weekend’s final culminating from the winners of two respective groups competing in the summer league.
Alberton won the toss and elected to bat first, posting 210 all out in the 39th over of the 40-over encounter. Top bowling performances went to Kempton Colts’ captain, Justin Bennett with 2/34, and Nathan Grobler with 2/39.
In reply, Kempton reached the target in 38 overs steering them to their inaugural victory in this competition.
Wicket keeper and opening batsman Keyan de Klerk top scored on 84, with Michael Pullinger getting 47* and Morne Smith 17*.
The other results were:
U/10 super league 1 played their last game of the season in a T20 challenge against Springs Old Boys. Kempton batted first and posted 137 runs.
Jacques Naude scored 40 and was ably supported by Marko van Voorst on 33.
The bowlers all chipped in to restrict the run rate. The top bowler was Nicholas Grobler with 3/16.
Excellent fielding resulted in three run outs, which prevented Springs from reaching the total and handing Kempton victory by 47 runs.
U/10 super league 2 faced Bedfordview in a T20 challenge, winning by four wickets. Kempton won the toss, fielded first and restricted Bedfordview to 82/9.
Cameron Rose took 3/20.
Kempton chasing scored the winning runs in 15.4 overs with the best batting performances coming from Sihaan Singh 26, Joshua James 19 and Jacey Labuschagne 15.
U/10 A1 also played their last game of the season in a T20 against Alberton. Alberton won the toss and elected to bat first.
Quality bowling by Garth van Deventer 1/8, Mackenzie Ross 1/7 and Ian Robb 2/13, plus tight fielding, restricted Alberton to 92 runs in their 20 overs.
In reply, top batting performances by James Howard 21*, Ruben Hanekom 16*, Stian de Villiers 15* and Brent Kotze 12 made easy work of the target with five overs to spare. The man of the match award went to Ian Robb.
U/10 A2 played Actonville, who batted first and were all out for 76. Marko Richter took 4/26 and in the reply Kempton made 80 with man of the match award recipient Keagan Lewis scoring 62*. Kempton won by six wickets.
U/ 10B2 won by five wickets in a T20 match played against Champions (Curro). Kobus van der Sandt was awarded man of the match.
U/12 super league beat Champions by four wickets in a T20 encounter at home. Champions were put in to bat first and scored 117 in their allotted overs.
Top bowling figures of 2/16 went to Sarel Erasmus. In reply, Kempton reached the target with an over to spare with Jarrod Kyle on 38*, earning him the man of the match award.
U/12 A1 lost to Avion by 12 runs. Avion batted first and made 133 in 23 overs, with Reece Winter taking 3/16, Jordan Southey 1/16 and Mathew Cowling 1/6. Kempton fell short with 121 in their 25 overs. Man of the match award went to Janco du Preez for his 39 runs, while Aiden Patterson scored 29* and Mathew Cowling 11.
U/12 A2 beat Katlehong by seven wickets. A great team effort and a good performance by man of the match Matthew Henning, who took 3/6 and Kyle Stevens, who took 2/5, sealed the victory.
U/12 B1 beat Wattville by eight wickets. Realeboga Chidi took five wickets which included a hat-trick.
U/12 B2 beat Alberton with a great display of fielding and bowling, which included a hat-trick by Michael Baird, who took 3/2.
Kempton reached the target in the 13th over with Keyaan Pillay on 30* and winning by four wickets.
U/14A played against Tsakane and batting first posted 205/9. In reply, Tsakane were bowled out for 130 with man of the match, Dayan Govendermaking 25 and producing bowling figures of 2/13.
