Zitikeni High School successfully defends its title

Zitikeni High School successfully defended their KTVR – Harambee title after trouncing Tembisa High School by 1 – 0.

Played on Friday at the Mohlareng Stadium, before a crowd of over 200 school learners and members of the community, this final showdown had everything soccer spectators had ordered.

From shibobos to dribbling prowess, and from brilliant saves to a beautifully taken goal.

But, in the end, Zitikeni High shone as they lifted the trophy for the second time in a row.

Mokwape Lekgwati, Zitikeni High’s coach, said his team came to this tournament with one intention and that was to defend their title.

“We prepared well and we gave our players room to use their own creativity, which I think made them perform at their level best. I am proud of these boys,” he said.

Clr Phelisa Nkunjana, MMC for Transport in the City of Ekurhuleni said: “I would like to thank the entire community of Tembisa and our partners in this initiative, the KTVR, for ensuring that these games are a success. We would also like to appreciate our soccer legend, Jomo Sono, for respecting us in this fashion by taking some time off and be part of these games.

“His presence here today has motivated our youngsters who gladly took the opportunity to be noticed with both hands and gave their all in the field of play.”

She continued saying that the City of Ekurhuleni would love to continue supporting these games because they create the right platform for the youngsters to be seen and perhaps scouted by professional soccer teams.

“After seeing the tournament’s successes, we immediately took a decision to have them spread across our eight zones of the City and we are planning to host these games in December. It is vital that other areas get to know the Harambee buses. We started rolling out the BRT system here in Tembisa and we will soon move to other areas,” she concluded.

KTVR marketing manager, Tebogo Modise also applauded the community and the schools that participated in this tourney.

“On behalf of the company we would like to say that the future looks bright for these future stars. From what we have seen here today, we are satisfied and convinced that this is going to be one of the biggest and supported soccer tournaments ever. As a company, we are forever grateful to the entire community,” said Modise.
