Local artists to headline Kwaito and House awards

Making his return as host for this year’s masterpiece is Tembisa’s very own DJ Sbu

Tembisa will be well represented at the fourth annual Mzansi Kwaito and House Music Awards (MKHMA) billed for November 30, at the Big Top Arena, Carnival City.

Tembisa-based kwaito artists S’fiso Maseko AKA Feestoz, Mrijo, Stena Skelem and Self-Made Dancers are all headed to the final showdown of these glitzy annual awards.

The awards’ public relations and communications officer, Mondli Mlauza, confirmed to this newspaper that these artists have all made it to the nomination list and are through to the final showdown.

These are not the only Tembisans making headlines and taking centre stage at the awards. Making his return as host for this year’s masterpiece is Tembisa’s very own DJ Sbu, otherwise known as Mzansi’s Number 1 Knox-man.

“DJ Sbu will be sharing the stage with top radio personality, also from Tembisa, YFM’s Tshepi Mabulana.

“Performances on the night of the awards include Sho Madjozi, L’vovo, Jessica Mbangeni, Uhuru, TDK Macassette, Jakarumba, Abofe and many more.

“Let me just say the line-up izoshis’ amateki and #ZizowaMore,” said Mlauza.

Mlauza said the awards have added two new categories this year, the Best Upcoming New Age Kwaito Artist and the Best New Upcoming Gqom Artist on top of their usual 20 categories.

Big names such as Jakarumba, Mshoza, Lady Zamar, Busiswa, King Monada, Sho Madjozi, Busiswa, TDK Macasette, Moonchild Sanelly, DJ Cleo,

Spikiri, and DJ Tira have all made it to the nomination list and it remains to be seen who will steal the night.

You can vote for your favourite artist, group and radio station by simply SMSing MKHMA (main keyword), KwaitoSingle (sub keyword) name (artist). Remember to include a space after the main keyword and sub keyword and then enter your chosen artist. SMSes costs R2.
