Alpha Security collects ‘cuddles’ for children
The toys were handed over to Child Welfare Germiston to be distributed to other organisations working with children during court processes
What does 3 993 teddy bears and court proceedings equate to?
Well, 3 993 children having a cuddle buddy to give them security when they have to testify in court. This initiative was brought to the attention of Child Welfare Germiston, Alpha Security and Alpha House Trauma Centre from Kempton Park, thanks to Tekkie Tax.
“Tekkie Tax is a national fund-raising organisation that works to support and raise funds for more than 250 non-governmental organisations nationwide,” said Barbara Bouwer, director of Child Welfare Germiston.
“Tekkie Tax collaborated with Business Network International (BNI) Tshwane to collect 1 000 cuddle toys. It’s intended for children who are vulnerable, at risk, traumatised and need something to treasure in comfort when they are feeling insecure and scared during court proceedings.”
The drive forms part of the 16 Days of Activism for No Violence Against Women and Children ( November 25 to December 10).
The toys were handed over to Child Welfare Germiston to be distributed to other organisations working with children during court processes. It will give them something to hold on to and cuddle in unsure times.
Bouwer said she would like to thank Alpha Security and Alpha House Trauma Centre for collaborating with them to collect an about 100 soft toys.
