Shakespeare talks about his passion for music
As long as Shakespeare makes music, the things that don't make sense begin to make sense.
Meet Shakespeare Nkosi, the local young musician determined to take over the music industry with his sound.
Nkosi was born and bred in Thembisa and is a singer, songwriter and dancer.
Music is a passion that runs through his bloodstream.
It’s something that’s helped him get through everything in his life. As long as he makes music, the things that don’t make sense begin to make sense.
His uncles became father figures to him while he was raised by a single mother.
His uncles influenced his musical approach and inspired him to promote change with each project he created with the musicians with whom he collaborated when he founded the 7th Wave Studio in 2010.
He joined the Sunday school choir at the age of six because he was interested in the arts and culture.
Shakespeare was also a member of the choir from primary school to high school.
His peers were interested in music and had the financial means to make it, so they decided to open a recording studio.
“I have seen how music has transformed the lives of all the musicians I’ve listened to since I was a child. Music became my only way out of my terrible surroundings and towards a better life for myself, my family and my peers.
“Music creates emotion, relates to the truth, is a type of treatment, and gives you a sense of freedom while listening to it.
“My creative approach involves a lot of vintage music from bygone eras and I interact with composers and artists to gain their opinions on specific songs to get a sense of their preferred style.
“That technique then helps me in steering my music in a specific direction. When I produce and engineer for other artists, I follow the same procedure.”
Shakespeare’s debut song Amasi was released on September 3.
He also produced tracks for artists like Touchline, DJ Citylyts, Red Button, Slam Eazzy and King Sweetkid.
