Pageant queen donates uniforms to local school

“It means a lot to the learners when they hear positive remarks coming from their communities since we are the ones who are meant to encourage them to make good life choices.”

As a way of giving back to the community, Miss Spontaneous Thembisa finalist Palesa Mailula gave a motivational talk at Tlamatlama Primary School on September 10 to give learners a perspective on the high school environment.

She also reassured them that education is the road to great achievement.

Through the initiative, the 19-year-old Winnie Mandela Zone Two resident mentioned the challenges that learners are likely to face in high schools, such as the effects of peer pressure, which may lead to teenage pregnancy.

Mailula also donated a box of school uniforms collected from the community, as well as a ‘lucky box’, which consists of cosmetics and masks that are placed in the school.

“In schools, you will find learners who come from different backgrounds. Therefore, the goal of the initiative is to bridge the gap between them. No learner should be denied the opportunity to learn because of their background, lack of cosmetics or school uniforms,” Mailula said.

She also added that learners should be allowed to enjoy their primary school days, and it is up to the community to ensure that the learners’ memories and experiences are both educational and enjoyable.

“The community has been tremendously helpful. I am eternally thankful for all of the donations and efforts it has made to ensure that the initiative runs smoothly and successfully, but most importantly, for lending a helping hand to the learners.”

The pageant queen encourages more community members and brands to come forward and donate what they have and exchange kind words of support, which would go a long way.

“It means a lot to the learners when they hear positive remarks coming from their communities since we are the ones who are meant to encourage them to make good life choices and to assure them that their backgrounds do not determine their future.”
