Tembisa Magistrate's Court says no bail for rape suspect

The Thembisa Magistrate's Court postponed the case against a man accused of holding his girlfriend hostage for six months to June 28.
According to Cynthia Dinalane of Tshegofatsa Rone Welfare N Community Organisation, the suspect appeared before the court on April 6.
“Because the State is also opposing bail, he will remain in prison while the investigation is ongoing. We are happy that he has not been given bail.”
The suspect made his first appearance in court on March 29, facing charges of kidnapping, rape and assault GBH.
It is believed that the accused held his 35-year-old girlfriend hostage in a backroom in Thembisa for more than six months.
Various community organisations and activists against gender-based violence were present at the court.
