Community attacks murder suspect

He was arrested at a clinic after he fled to the facility for medical care following the attack

An Ivory Park man, arrested for murder, is under police guard in a hospital after an alleged attack by community members on April 16.
Ivory Park SAPS spokesperson Capt Ben Matimulane said the murder took place in the same area on the same day.
“The murder suspect and the 33-year old deceased were involved in an argument at a tavern. The argument settled down but the suspect allegedly later returned with a knife.
“He reignited the argument with the deceased who was then stabbed. The suspect fled the scene and the victim was pronounced dead by paramedics.”
Matimulane said community members assaulted the suspect and attempted to arrest him.
“He then stabbed one of them and managed to escape. Because of the injuries he sustained during the attack, he fled to a nearby health facility. This is where the police, after preliminary investigations, found him,” said Matimulane.
Brig David Mbongeni Ngcobo, station commander of Ivory Park SAPS, expressed concern about the proliferation of unlicensed liquor outlets in the area.
“These places are not doing enough to enhance security at their places. As part of ongoing measures to ensure the safety of the inhabitants of Ivory Park policing precinct, unlicensed liquor establishments should expect no mercy from the police.
“Licenced facilities must familiarise themselves with the terms and conditions of their licensing,” said Ngcobo.
