Fake traffic cops nabbed

The two were apprehended after a high-speed chase sparked by the reckless driving of a white Volkswagen Polo automobile with bogus registration plates and blue lights and a siren.

EMPD members nabbed two men dressed in Gauteng traffic officer uniforms in Thembisa, Winnie Mandela Zone 3, on April 30.
The two were apprehended after a high-speed chase sparked by the reckless driver of a white Volkswagen Polo with bogus registration number plates and blue lights and a siren.
According to EMPD spokesperson Kelebogile Thepa, a victim of a hijacking was found handcuffed, shot in the abdomen and forced down against his will in what appeared to be a police vehicle.
“The impersonators were quickly handcuffed after the victim reported the event to the EMPD officers, claiming that he had been hijacked, shot, and kidnapped by the same bogus officers.
“Following the activation of a tracking device, the hijacked vehicle was recovered near Kaalfontein, Midrand, with the shipment misappropriated.
“The two men were taken to Tembisa Police Station on suspicion of hijacking, kidnapping, attempted murder, impersonating police officers and possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition,” said Thepa.
