Woman arrested for abandoning newborn baby

A 27-year-old woman was arrested after a baby was discovered abandoned at a Hospitalview apartment

A 27-year-old woman has been detained after a baby was found abandoned at a Hospital View home on May 10.
Sgt Pitsi Makgatho and her assistant Const Malebo Sefala received a call from a concerned resident of Hospital View, notifying her that the community had apprehended a woman suspected of neglecting a child.
According to Makgatho they arrived at the scene, where they were informed that an unknown woman had been spotted placing a parcel in front of one of the houses in Hospital View.
When the residents spotted the woman entering the yard, they got suspicious because they knew the owners were at work.
“The woman left when she realised she had been spotted. She left the parcel there. The suspicious neighbours went to investigate the package, only to discover that it contained a baby who was only a few weeks old.
“The child was given handed over to Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) members for medical attention and placement.”
