Three suspects were arrested by newly formed Essential Infrastructure Task Team
Three suspects were arrested on May 17 by the Essential Infrastructure Task Team for possession of suspected stolen copper.
The newly formed task team that is based at the Ekurhuleni District Offices was patrolling the Benoni area when they noticed a white Toyota bakkie.
Thembisa SAPS spokesperson Const Patricia Mgijima said members stopped the bakkie that was occupied by three suspects.
“They proceeded to search the vehicle and found a pile of copper cables. The suspects could not give a satisfactory reason or any form of receipt for being in possession of the cables,” Mgijima said.
“Two of the three suspects were found to be from Thembisa and their addresses were visited,” said Mgijima.
“There was numerous Ekurhuleni Energy Department infrastructure found in the room he was renting, including cables and circuit breakers. The Ekurhuleni Energy Department identified the infrastructure as council property with an estimated value of about R100 000,” Mgijima said.
