Campbell announces new MMCs

Mayor Tania Campbell is confident that new MMCs are experienced and fit for purpose in their new respective portfolios.

Executive mayor of the City of Ekurhuleni, Tania Campbell, announced on May 23 the new members of the mayoral committee (MMCs).
The multi-party mayoral committee lost two members who served just six months in the Ekurhuleni coalition government before handing in their resignations.
The two vacancies were the seats of MMC for Finance and Economic Development, which was chaired by Clr Graham Gersbach and the chair for MMC for Corporate and Shared Services, which was chaired by Clr Ruhan Robinson.
It was hardly six months when Gersbach handed in his resignation on May 12 amid the expectation of him to deliver the city’s budget speech on May 25. Although Gersbach allegedly left on bad terms with the mayor, Campbell was adamant to continue working with Gersbach as he begins his new role in the City’s Legislature and Robinson in his new role in the Gauteng Provincial Legislature.
According to the mayor, the newly appointed MMCs are experienced and fit for purpose in their new respective portfolios.
“Following multiple consultations with the multi-party coalition partners and relevant stakeholders, the new MMCs will maintain the administration's stability and ensure that we continue delivering quality public services in the city,” said the mayor.
“Clr Fanyana Nkosi, from the Democratic Alliance (DA), will replace Gersbach. Nkosi served as the DA's spokesperson on Finance, Economic Development and ICT before the local government elections in 2021 and has served as an advisor to the former MMC of Finance for the last six months. As a result, he was involved in the budgetary process,” announced Campbell.
“Clr Brandon Pretorius, also from the DA, will replace Robinson (DA) as MMC for Corporate and Shared Services. Pretorius has served as a Whip in Council and serves as the chairperson of the Coalition Management Council in the city.”
The mayor congratulated the incoming MMCs as she hopes they will work together in achieving the city’s Back-to-Basics vision.
“I wish the new MMCs all the best in their new responsibilities.
“I also wish to express the gratitude of the administration to Gersbach and Robinson for the sterling work they did during the first six months of their tenure.”
