Joint law enforcement operation searches Thembisa schools, drugs and vapes confiscated
A multi-agency operation led by the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) targeted Thuto Ke Maatla and Boitumelong secondary schools in Thembisa, confiscating drugs, vapes and other prohibited items as part of efforts to strengthen school safety across Ekurhuleni.
Officers from the EMPD’s Social Crime and K9 units, the SAPS, Gauteng Traffic Wardens, the education department and other law enforcement agencies searched the Thuto Ke Maatla and Boitumelong secondary schools in Thembisa on February 11.
The joint initiative aimed to improve school safety in schools across Ekurhuleni.
Officials said schools had become targets for criminal elements, with some trying to recruit learners to commit crimes and distribute illicit substances.

Officers also engaged learners on gangsterism and bullying, and highlighted the consequences of crime and drug abuse.
Items confiscated included vapes, Ziplock bags containing dagga, boxes of matches, cigarettes, broken mirrors and unknown pills.
The EMPD commended the collaboration and urged parents to work with teachers and the police by monitoring and reporting concerning behaviour seen in their children.
