Pretoria: Menlyn Maine ‘shooter’ released on bail
Carlos Arendse appeared briefly in the Pretoria magistrate’s court on a charge of murder after he was arrested on Monday for allegedly shooting and killing JB Strydom at a parking lot.
A 45-year old man accused of killing another at a parking lot at the Menlyn Maine shopping centre has been released on R8 000 bail, Rekord East reports.
Carlos Arendse appeared briefly in the Pretoria magistrate’s court on Wednesday, on a charge of murder after he was arrested on Monday afternoon, for allegedly shooting and killing JB Strydom (45).
It was alleged that the men had an argument about a car sale gone wrong.
Police spokesperson Brigadier Mathapelo Peters said that Strydom was with two other men when one of them allegedly approached Arendse and an altercation ensued.
“Preliminary reports indicate that the suspect retreated to his vehicle and returned with a firearm and fired more than one shot at the deceased,” Peters said.
Strydom died on the scene.
“Police confiscated the firearm and we are still investigating the motive of the shooting,” she said.
Arendse was expected back in court on March 11 2020.
