Soccer legends teach inmates some skills
The inmates from the Krugersdorp Correctional Centre recently attended a soccer clinic hosted by PSL Legends.
Inmates of the Krugersdorp Correctional Centre recently had the opportunity to train with Premier Soccer League (PSL) Legends during a professional soccer clinic.
The clinic was presented in partnership with The Humanitarian Empowerment Fund (HEF) and Grace Outreach Ministries Africa (Goma).
Clete Stevis is one of the HEF directors and a pastor, and with the help of his wife Luzette and the rest of their organisation they try to impact communities holistically by teaching them different life and social skills.
Clete and his team are travelling from prison to prison where they want to present skills courses similar to this one.
On 13 February the Goma members brought with them soccer greats such as Fabian McCarthy, Matthew Booth and even DJ Cleo to help the inmates sharpen their soccer skills.
They also brought some snacks and served each inmate a boerewors roll, energy drink and chocolate for lunch.
The Correctional soccer teams first had to do some gruelling drills, with each drill focused on a particular skill soccer players need.
There was running, jumping, passing and blocking. They learned different game plans and also did some core training to strengthen their bodies.
Then they had the opportunity to compete against each other.
Some players were chosen from the various teams to form one team that will go up against the PSL Legends in few months’ time.
While the soccer players were working up a sweat on the field, the rest of the inmates stood around, enjoying the warm summer’s day. Music was playing and there was even live commentary to create the right atmosphere.
