The pupils from Zwartkop Valley Primary School celebrated World Environment Day with Glenburn Lodge on 5 June, compliments of Sir Juice and Garden World.
This year’s theme for World Environment Day was ‘Eat.Think.Save’ and produced the perfect platform for Glenburn Lodge to create awareness of the importance of this matter. Members of Glenburn Lodge along with representatives from Sir Juice and Garden World paid a visit to the pupils of Zwartkop Valley Primary School on 5 June for a fun-filled educational day.
Pupils snacked on deliciously made vetkoeke prepared by the Lodge’s chefs while Sir Juice made sure the pupils were kept hydrated. Dressed up in overalls, the Grade 3 pupils jumped to work by planting a vegetable and herb patch that was supplied by the Garden World team.
The Garden World team showed the pupils how to plant and maintain their own vegetable and herb patch and in the process, teaching them to use and re-grow food. Glenburn Lodge is also providing the school with a daily soup pot during the months of June and July which will be prepared from the left over meals of the lodge.
This is not only done to minimize food wastage at the lodge itself but also to ensure that the pupils are getting added nutrition. Glenburn Lodge also decided to practice what they preach by planting their own little vegetable and herb patch on the property from where the kitchen staff can obtain freshly produced herbs. “We will most definitely continue with our venture to maintain and minimize our food wastage at Glenburn Lodge.
For some it might seem diminutive to dispose of food not eaten, to others that food can change the world. This is a very serious matter for Management and Staff at our property and one that we will not take lightly.” Nigel Peel, General Manager, Glenburn Lodge.
