First time rugby win for Lewisham
The underdogs rose to the challenge and took home the title.

The Lewisham Primary’s first rugby team can walk with their heads held high after taking home the National 7’s Rugby Bowl Winners Trophy.
Curro Private School hosted the first of its kind tournament this year, inviting fellow schools on board for the exciting tournament.
After participating in the final round on 1 June the first team walked away with the title and the trophy for the first Curro National 7’s Rugby Bowl Winners of 2013.
“We are pleased with our team after making their appearance in the new tournament,” says coach Edwin van der Merwe.
Lewisham Primary had to battle it out on the rugby field against strong rugby schools such as Dr Havenga, Fochville Primary and Curro Private School. As the school is not a big rugby school the first team consisted of the best athletes from Grades 5, 6 and 7, making up the victorious team that walked away with the title.
The team trained weeks on end under the leadership of coaches Edwin and Rynard van der Merwe who led them to victory.
“At the end of a very busy season we are very proud of how the team excelled in the tournament and on the rugby field. We look forward to build on this new title for the coming years.”
