Prove society wrong and transform yourself

The unfortunate truth about society is that they are just as afraid about change as you are.

Everyone wants to have a cover-model body and live healthily, but unfortunately society has a crab mentality when it comes to transforming into a better person.

The unfortunate truth about society – including friends and family – is that they are just as afraid as you are about change.

Stian Weideman, a strength and conditioning coach at Krugersdorp’s Sportcon Fitness and Performance Centre at the Anthos Centre on Voortrekker Road says that they are unable to handle your transformation process and therefore will find ways to comfort you and motivate you to be unsuccessful.

“They are then acting like crabs. A single crab can and will escape when put into a lidless bucket, but when the bucket is filled with crabs they still can escape if they wanted to but as soon as one tries to climb out the others drag him down to share the mutual fate of the rest of the group.”

The reason for this, he says, is that society sees your successful body transformation as a threat because you will have more self-confidence, more energy and a zest for life, pressurising them to change too and they are afraid that they will be unsuccessful.

“I very rarely meet someone who is absolutely happy with their health and the condition of their body. We all slip up sooner or later – not because we don’t care but because life just tends to get in the way. The convenience of takeaway foods adds to the pressure of staying healthy and having the body you’ve always wanted,” explains Stian.

“When starting a body transformation journey most people make the mistake of attacking this goal with extreme measures such as going on a salads-only diet and committing to training far more than their body can handle.”

This momentum will last for a month if you are lucky, but will come to a screeching halt when encountering any small but visible obstacles.

“Doubt starts creeping in and you start accepting your fate. Friends and family comfort you by telling you that they love you just the way you are and changing your body won’t make a difference to them. I’m sorry to be the one to tell you the truth but changing your body will make a difference to them.”

Stian says that most people don’t want you to succeed because they are afraid that if you do, you will make them look like a failure.

“Ask any successful entrepreneur or person who has achieved phenomenal results in any area of their life, how much resistance they have had to endure from others – this will prove my statement.”

He says that if you stick to your training programme and follow the right advice you can be successful.

“Sportcon is focused on getting Krugersdorp fit again as there are like-minded people who want to become better.

“We have people of all shapes and sizes who motivate each other to transform their bodies. With the launch of our new SMART system we have the only results-guaranteed training system in Krugersdorp.”
