Stop being a bully

Your choice of words or actions can have a negative impact on a person.

Stop Bullying Now SA, a registered non-profit organisation that recently relocated to Krugersdorp, paid Nic Diederichs Technical High School a visit to talk to and train pupils about the negative impact their choice of words or actions can have on a person.

Yvette Winson from the organisation who offers the training and courses say that they do it with the intention to give advice and show that there is nothing wrong if a person shows affection.

She says that the organisation has worked with over 400 schools, amounting to over 22 000 pupils.

“We work with schools that are not financially stable to afford a psychologist and therefore help by offering training to teachers so that they are able to help manage problems they face within the classroom and on the school ground.”

Helping her with all the training requirements are her team consisting of JJ Botes, Melissa Eales and Wicus Botha.

“They are a dedicated team and goes into every session with a loving attitude.”

All data collected during these sessions are discussed with the school and a plan of action is designed to assist schools in this quest.

Some of the pupils who attended the training sessions told the NEWS that they never realised that their actions can have an impact on their fellow pupils.

They watched a video indicating that many teenagers committed suicide because of bullying and teasing at schools. “Due to the moral degeneration that has taken place in society it has left pupils emotionally distorted to a point where some of them cannot cope,” says Yvette.

One pupil who wished to remain anonymous said with tears in her eyes that pupils are teasing her because of her weight.

“I have lost my friends of six years by giving them up and getting better friends who gave me a reason to live. My academic achievements also have improved.”

Yvette says they offered the pupils several activities such as getting the pupils to portray themselves on a paper plate, which will explain how they feel and see themselves.

If there are schools that want to book the team of Stop Bullying Now SA they can contact Yvette on 072 934 8500.
