Video: Krugersdorp’s baby giraffe gets physiotherapy

The Krugersdorp Game Reserve has a new addition to their family.

A new-born giraffe is gaining strength by the day after it was born prematurely on a rocky hill within the Krugersdorp Game Reserve on Saturday 2 November.

Game Ranger Wayne Muller found the calf in an injured state on a rocky ledge hours after it was born and abandoned.

“The calf’s underdeveloped legs failed each time it tried to stand up and walk. Falling on the rocks then caused multiple injuries,” he says.

Muller and fellow game ranger Isaiah Majoro have been taking care of the calf ever since.

It needs to drink every two hours and rangers have treated its injuries and doing some physiotherapy.

“We have to strengthen those weak legs, so we go for regular walks around the lodge area of the reserve,” says Muller.

The young male giraffe has not been named and the Krugersdorp Game Reserve invites residents to get creative and pick a name for the latest addition to the Krugersdorp Game Reserve family.
