Parents protest after school ceiling caved in

Parents demand for a Kagiso school to be upgraded.

Angry parents protested outside Atlholang Primary School on Monday 4 November, reportedly opposing the bad conditions of the school’s infrastructure.

The Daily Sun newspaper reported that parents allegedly believe that their children’s lives are in danger when going to school.

They say that a classroom ceiling collapsed and injured six children in September.

A parent is quoted saying that the school turned 42 this year without any record of renovations since its opening.

Parents demand mobile classrooms for children to write exams in and call on school management to renovate dilapidated classrooms.

Education spokesperson Gershwin Chuenyane was quoted stating that a renovation programme was put out to tender and that renovations would start next year.
