Cancer diagnosis inspires woman to write
Krugersdorp author Joyce Machuisa writes about her battle with breast cancer since 2008.
Kagiso resident and now local author Joyce Machuisa has been living with breast cancer since 2008.
The cancer has spread throughout her body, and she has been told by doctors that nothing more could be done for her.
Yet Joyce is not wallowing in self-pity or harbouring any bitterness.
In fact, she has written a book documenting her journey with cancer in the hope to help others who have been diagnosed with the dreaded disease and perceived death sentence.
“Not one of the words are for personal gain; I write to inspire and give hope,” she says.
Facing multiple challenges in the process of publishing a book, Joyce never gave up hope.
She wrote her book on a borrowed laptop and went to sleep worrying about where she would find the money to publish it.
Persistence assured success and Joyce launched her book in Midrand three days after her birthday this month.
A young artist by the name of Nicola Hattingh from Midrand painted a portrait of Joyce and auctioned it off on the day, donating the proceeds to the local author.
