CopperStone Promotions recently held another nail-biting finale of their annual Bachelor & Bachelorette of the Year Competition at a spectacular gala event at Silverstar Casino.
Who took home the prestigious titles? None other than the West Rand’s Michelle Hinrichsen and Eddy Rust of Northcliff.
The event, which was the third of its kind, was the epitome of glamour, excellence and prestige as 12 individual campaigned their way to the title.
The competition is open to any person older than 20 and hopefuls can enter regardless of gender or sexual preferences. The competition is not a beauty pageant and winners are judged mainly on the charity work they do within their community.
The competition’s beneficiary is the Cancer Association of South Africa (Cansa) who has partnered with CopperStone since the first competition in 2011.
Throughout the judging process the finalists had many tasks and projects all with the same outcome – creating much-needed awareness about cancer.
During the finale, the finalists had one more chance to prove why they deserved to win.
Michelle’s passion and drive showed throughout her journey as a finalist and ultimately led to her winning. Eddy’s heartfelt life story of being a cancer survivor and overcoming all obstacles made him a crowd favourite. But his fight against cancer and the awareness he created landed him the coveted title.

During the evening the cream of the crop of South African entertainers also took to the stage.
George Meiring, Karen Ferreira, Veronique Lalouette, Lee Scott, Christiaan Kritzinger, Johan C Venter and Granville Michaels kept the audience on the edge of their seats with their excellent performances.
Hannes van Wyk (Bravo presenter), Marisa Drummond (actress) and Jonathan Boynton-Lee (Top Billing presenter) were the hosts of the evening.
Caxton West Rand’s very own Rialien Furstenberg, editor of the Get It Joburg West magazine, had the opportunity to be part of the judging panel for the second time.
“Most of us know or know of someone fighting the battle against cancer – the Bachelor & Bachelorette of the Year competition is therefore an outstanding initiative to raise funds for Cansa. After months of hard work, dedication and life-changing experiences all contestants can be proud of their efforts to raise money for such a worthy cause,” says Rialien.
