WAS Foundation appeals for public support for 10-Day Holiday Programme

Every meal, every donation, every act of kindness counts. The WAS Foundation is inviting the public to help provide 220 children with nutritious meals, fun activities, and a safe place this school holiday.

The WAS Foundation is appealing to the public, businesses, and community organisations to support its upcoming 10-Day Holiday Programme, which aims to provide meals, recreational activities, care, and a safe environment for 220 children between the ages of six and 18 during the school holidays.

The programme has been developed to ensure that children have access to nutritious meals, meaningful activities, and a supportive environment throughout the holiday period. For many of the children who participate, the programme provides consistency, encouragement, and access to meals during a time when they may otherwise have limited resources.

Nadia Pensalfine, second in charge at the foundation, said community support is essential to the programme’s success.

“Every donation, no matter the size, helps us provide meals, care and a safe holiday experience for 220 children. We encourage the community to join us in making a positive difference in their lives,” Nadia said.

To sustain the programme over the 10 days, the foundation is seeking financial contributions as well as donations of food and essential supplies. The planned menu includes a variety of balanced meals such as Sloppy Joes with fruit, hot dogs and popcorn, chicken curry and rice, sandwiches, spaghetti bolognese, homemade pizza, boerewors rolls, hamburgers and chips, and vetkoek with mince.

The estimated cost of providing meals is R23 per child per day, which amounts to R230 to sponsor one child for the full 10-day programme. Members of the public are encouraged to sponsor a child for one day, the entire programme, or to contribute any amount they can give.

In addition to financial assistance, the foundation has identified several items that are needed for the programme, including:

• second-hand children’s clothing
• toys and teddy bears
• colouring books
• stationery
• glue
• hand wash
• toilet paper
• dishwashing liquid
• cups and plates

Every contribution, regardless of its value, will assist the foundation in providing meals, care, and a positive holiday experience for the children attending the programme.

Those who are unable to make a financial donation are encouraged to support the initiative by sharing the appeal with family, friends, colleagues, and businesses, helping to raise awareness and encourage broader community involvement.

Donations can be delivered to the foundation’s offices at 71 Tanner Street, Krugersdorp West.

Through the generosity of the community, the WAS Foundation hopes to ensure that every child participating in the Holiday Programme enjoys ten days of nutritious meals, engaging activities, and a safe and caring environment during the school holidays.
