No holiday plans? Head out to Muldersdrift

With so much to do in Muldersdrift this holiday season, you will always find an excuse to stay home for Christmas.

Those not travelling to the coast or elsewhere do not have to be left twiddling their thumbs these December holidays.

Just a short drive from Krugersdorp in the picturesque countryside of Muldersdrift, a multitude of fun events and activities await the whole family in a host of secure and relaxing environments.

“The best thing about Muldersdrift is that while it’s not far from the city, you will feel as if you’re miles away, enjoying that much-needed getaway we all deserve in December,” says Gilbert Hickman, tourism spokesperson for the Muldersdrift Community Action Group (MCAG).

If you and your loved ones would like to experience the great outdoors, why not visit Lethabo Estate on the banks of the Crocodile River near Lanseria Airport in the Rhenosterspuit Conservancy? Aside from luxurious spa offerings for parents, the rest of the family also can enjoy riverside picnics, fire dancing shows, or go for exciting game drives at the nearby Lion and Rhino Park. Another option is the 30km mountain bike and hiking trail where you might come across wildebeest, zebra, kudu, eland and even some brown hyena.

Or if you are looking for a more relaxing and laid-back venue where children can just run, climb and play in a safe and secure outdoor play area while you enjoy a coffee and light meal – consider Little Feet at Riverstone Lodge in Muldersdrift (the place of smiles) during the holiday period and enjoy the relaxing and friendly environment with friends and family. For some serious luxury and relaxation, you could visit any one of the Guvon spas in the area at Askari, Chicama or Kloofzicht and take advantage of their special Christmas spa packages.

Then head over to the Silverstar Casino over the long weekend to shop till you drop at their bustling Christmas market from 14 to 16 December.

More entertainment awaits visitors to the Casino, as they’re hosting the Tina and Rod Tribute Show from Las Vegas from 13 to 31 December.

If you are looking for a memorable Christmas, why not treat the family to some of the many Christmas festivities on offer throughout Muldersdrift?

Many of the hotels such as Misty Hills, Carnivore Restaurant and Hertford, will host a Christmas luncheon buffet with an adult as well as a kiddies buffet menu for children under 12.

Valverde Country Hotel will be going the whole nine yards too, starting off with a Christmas Eve afternoon high tea, followed by a Christmas Eve braai, as well as a plated Christmas lunch at the Fat Olive Restaurant and Christmas lunch buffet at Valverde.

For a real treat, the Valley Lodge and Spa is hosting a Christmas Eve buffet dinner where children under six eat for free.

Sip on a delicious glass of non-alcoholic iced eggnog, and kit out the whole family with their festive complimentary hats and crackers. Santa Clause will make a special appearance also to hand out gifts under the tree, followed by atmospheric carols by candlelight. The next day their Christmas Day lunch buffet will include eggnog, hats and crackers, as well as a non-denominational service in the chapel.

Otherwise consider having a poolside lunch instead, followed by a Christmas Day dinner with a light menu buffet. Avianto also is celebrating Christmas in a beautiful country setting, dishing up a cheerful traditional buffet lunch with all the seasonal bells and whistles while you enjoy live entertainment by their resident musician.

Think you’re staying at home watching TV for New Year’s Eve? Think again. Muldersdrift will be alive with the lights, laughter and celebration when we count down the final seconds of 2013.

Get on your dancing shoes and come party at Valverde’s New Year’s Eve Mega Party with a great DJ as entertainment and a five-course plated and buffet menu, before counting down to midnight as in the Spanish tradition. Also bring your children along to make lots of new friends in the children’s room while a babysitter makes sure they don’t get up to mischief.

Worried about driving home after having one glass too many? Just book accommodation that includes a delicious champagne breakfast on New Year’s morning. Also with children in mind, Valley Lodge and Spa has a children’s area available at their Old Year’s Eve dinner.

Enjoy a homemade ginger beer welcome drink and a delightful spit braai and potjie buffet while you get into the party spirit with hats, sparklers and party whistles. Then head into the New Year, sipping a glass of sparkling wine to be served at midnight. New Year’s Day will then start off with a breakfast buffet, followed by a New Year’s Day lunch buffet or light poolside lunch where you can build your own burger, salad and dessert.

“With so much going on, no one has to be left out this December holiday. Make sure you book soon to avoid disappointment!” Hickman concludes.
