Retailer opens by donating money first

After the cheque was handed over, the cutting of the ribbon symbolised the official opening of the store.

It was a morning of joyous celebration when Woolworths opened their doors for business during the grand opening of the super-regional Cradlestone Mall.

To mark the special occasion, Woolworths Cradlestone donated R5 000 to the Matla Combined School situated in the area.

The morning started off with pupils (over 1 500) of the school, dancing to traditional music and singing songs of praise. The school is always in dire need of funds since most of the pupils are orphans.

The Krugersdorp SAPS’ Child Protection Unit also works hand in hand with the school since the number of violence against these children are quite high.

Captain Paula Terblanch helped coordinate the event and commended Woolworths for always being involved with the school.

“Woolworths always has helped with whatever the school needed and today just shows that their commitment will stand,” says Paula.

The HODs of the school Catherine Gabatshwarwe and Moabelo Eezy were present to received the funds for the school.

After the cheque was handed over, the beautiful Kirsty van der Merwe, a former Miss West Rand, had the honours of cutting the ribbon symbolising the official opening of the store.
