Slippery when wet: police vehicle involved in rainy weather collision

A case of reckless and negligent driving is under investigation after a police vehicle collided with a bakkie in Luipaardsvlei.

A collision between a police vehicle and a Nissan 1400 bakkie on Grey Street in Luipaardsvlei caused havoc in the afternoon traffic rush on Tuesday 3 December.

What initially was thought to be a collision after a police chase turned out to be just another rainy weather crash in Krugersdorp.

According to Krugersdorp SAPS spokesperson Tshepiso Mashale a police officer was driving in rainy weather and attempted to apply breaks while approaching a traffic light.

“The vehicle slipped on the wet road, causing the police vehicle to collide with a stationary Nissan bakkie,” she says.

“Fortunately, no one was injured.”

A case of reckless and negligent driving has been opened and is currently under investigation.

The Krugersdorp SAPS urges motorist to be extra cautious while driving in wet conditions.
