Joyful celebrations as matriculants receive their results

KHS and Jan de Klerk matrics celebrate their achievements.

It was a joyful occasion for the matriculants of Krugersdorp who woke up today, 7 January feeling both excited and nervous about collecting their matric exam results.

The schools also are proud of their matriculants’ achievements.

Lauren Jooste-Coetzee, spokesperson for Krugersdorp High School, says that they are very proud of the 235 distinctions their 230 matrics have achieved in the exam.

“We have a 98,12 per cent pass rate and a 76,24 per cent university exemption rate.”

Jan van Aardt, principal of Hoërskool Jan de Klerk says that he is proud of his matric pupils despite a drop in the pass rate.

“Our 114 pupils have obtained a 89,47 per cent pass rate, which is slightly lower than last year’s 95 per cent, therefore we shall work towards a 90 per cent pass rate this year.”

Their matrics managed to bag 10 distinctions, while 24 per cent obtained admission to a Bachelor’s degree at a tertiary institution and 58,8 per cent obtained admission to study towards a diploma.

Van Aardt says the good news is that the percentage of admissions to study towards a higher certificate only has dropped from 25 per cent in 2012 to 16,7 per cent.

“Our main focus each year is to improve our matric results.”
