School bus accident on R28 leaves 14 injured

Fourteen people were injured following an accident involving a BMW opposite Silverstar Casino.

Eighteen people were injured in separate incidents on the R28 over the weekend.

On Saturday 8 February 14 people, of which four seriously, were injured after a school bus was rear-ended by another vehicle at about 4.42pm.

Reports from Netcare 911 paramedics indicate that the school bus was travelling along the R28 opposite Silverstar Casino when a BMW vehicle rear-ended them.

The paramedics on scene found that the road was obstructed by debris and the twisted remains of the vehicles.

After the injured patients had been stabilised they were transported to a local hospital for the care they required.

A day after this accident, on 9 February, two adults and two children sustained critical injuries when they were ejected from their vehicle on the R28 in Azaadville.

Paramedics from ER24 arrived at the scene shortly after 3.30pm and found an eight-year-old boy with critical injuries. They initiated Advanced Life Support treatment.

Werner Vermaak, a spokesperson at ER24 says the AER24 medical helicopter was called to the scene to airlift the boy to the Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital.

A 17-year-old and two adults were treated on the scene for possible head injuries as well as multiple fractures.

“They also were stabilised on the scene before being rushed to Leratong Hospital for further medical care.”

Vermaak says that the exact cause of the collision is not yet known and that it is understood that no other vehicles were involved.
