Magalies pilot killed in accident

A pilot of a gliding club was killed in an accident after the light aircraft crashed and burst into flames.

A pilot was killed when the light aircraft he was travelling in crashed in Orient Hills, Magaliesburg just after noon on 16 February.

According to Santi Steinmann, Netcare 911 spokesperson the aircraft burst into flames on impact, causing the occupant to burn beyond recognition.

Apparently the plane was towing a glider when problems with the aircraft caused it to crash to the ground where it caught alight.

She says that the South African Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) would investigate the cause of the accident.

The identity of the deceased can not be made public until his next of kin is informed.

The daily newspaper The Star reported that pilot is a dedicated member of the Magalies Gliding Club.
