Boy (3) injured on N14

The distraught mother was holding her seriously injured boy when paramedics arrived at the scene.

A three-year-old boy is in a critical condition after being hit by a taxi on the N14 near Tarlton early yesterday morning 6 April.

Russel Meiring, Emergency Media and Client Liaison Coordinator for ER24 says when their paramedics arrived at the scene they found the boy on the side of the road with his distraught mother holding him.

“Paramedics immediately assessed the boy and found that he was in a critical condition. He had sustained serious injuries, including lacerations to his head, and a broken arm and leg. Advanced life support treatment was provided to the patient before he was stabilised on a spine board.”

Meiring says that an AER24 medical helicopter was called in to transport the patient to a hospital in Johannesburg.

“Witnesses stated that the taxi had hit the child before driving off.”

Local authorities were on scene to conduct further investigations.
