Local paddler awarded despite injury

While Warren Mackenzie was injured throughout most of 2013, his support for the club was unwavering.

Florida Lake Canoe Club held its very festive annual awards ceremony recently at the stunningly beautiful Sterkfontein Heritage Lodge surrounded by beautiful gardens.

Despite the ongoing drizzle and grey clouds, the event was very cheerful as the competing paddlers teased and chirped the winners of the awards while some fun jovial awards also were presented, including Boat breaker of the Year, Saw my Gat award, Most Loskop paddler of the Year and so forth.

While Warren Mackenzie, a Krugersdorp resident, was injured with a hip operation throughout most of 2013, his support for the club was unwavering.

He donated a beautiful Rhino trophy for the club to present and the club members teasingly awarded him the Hope to do a Race One Day award to encourage him to return to full health and active participation in the sport of river canoeing.

Numerous other awards also were presented for various categories and age groups.
