VIDEO: Former Krugersdorp High pupil competes for Mrs SA title
Nationally acclaimed beauty Cathy Heaton ploughs back into her hometown in the run-up to the Mrs SA finals.
She claimed her first pageant title when being crowned Miss Krugersdorp High in 1994. Thereafter she took top spots in various competitions.
Now Cathy Heaton finds herself an acclaimed competitor in the number-one pageant for married women in South Africa – Mrs SA 2014.
Although she now lives in Fourways, this successful businesswoman and wife says she hopes to make her hometown, Krugersdorp proud in the run-up to and on the big night Mrs SA 2014 will be crowned.
She speaks fondly of Krugersdorp where she grew up and spent most of her young life. She admits that a part of her always will be rooted in the town. In fact she plans on ploughing back into the community by using her title as a finalist in the Mrs SA 2014 competition.
“I have a project under way through which I shall serve the people of Coronation Park informal settlement,” she says and explains that the project will include a donation of clothes and toys.
With her sights set on winning, Heaton says she will address serious issues with regard to child safety if awarded the title.
“I am passionate about many causes but would like to focus the attention on child safety, such as in cars and water,” she says.
“I’d like to be involved in campaigns to ensure the installation of car seats for babies and children travelling in taxis, and to support campaigns to establish new swimming pool safety laws in South Africa.”
She also is involved with an organisation called Turn Your Voice Viral, which teaches the youth to use social media correctly and to their advantage.
Through the organisation she aims to address cyber bullying and give youngsters tools to cope with the issue.
“It always has been a passion of mine to empower young people and show them their potential by raising them up and not allowing their peers or society to bring them down,” she says.
