Despite the cold weather, over 2 000 birding enthusiasts and families flocked to the annual Sasol Bird Fair at the Walter Sisulu National Botanical Garden this past weekend.
There were various workshops for adults and edu-taining activities for children, enhancing their knowledge about bird conservation.
The Sasol Bird Fair is a project of BirdLife South Africa, sponsored by Sasol, in partnership with the South African National Biodiversity Institute (SANBI).
The fair provides an opportunity to create awareness about birds, bird research and conservation.
The theme for the fair was Going Inland to Save our Seabirds, while the Bird of the Year was the seabird, Tristan Albatross – one of only two critically endangered species that occur in South Africa.
