Jade is heading to Hollywood

She was chosen recently to represent team South Africa at the World Championship for Performing Arts in Hollywood this July.

Jade Hibbert, a 9-year-old pupil from Laerskool Muldersdrift, gets up at 5am every morning and starts practising her beloved instrument, the violin.

She tries to squeeze in extra practice in the afternoons or evenings as well for a total of two-and-a-half hours’ practice every day, including weekends.

All this hard work pays off since she achieves amazing results in all events she participates in, such as eisteddfods, examinations and internationally recognised competitions such as The South African Competition of Performing Arts that took place in Rustenburg in April. Jade took part in the instrumental and dance events, achieving two gold medals in the original and open sections of the instrumental event aged eight to 10 years.

She also studies Spanish dancing with the Wilcarina and Annabelle School of Dancing in Wilro Park and received a gold medal for ethnic and folklore dance.

Jade received the trophies for overall winner for instruments – eight to 10 years – and Grand Champion Award for junior instruments.

In her young life she has performed at several weddings and functions for light entertainment, and by doing so earns a bit of pocket money.
