Tourism alive with possibilities
The 7th West Rand Tourism Awards event was held to appreciate the good work of this sector.
The best in the tourism sector recently was awarded and thanked for their contribution at the seventh West Rand Tourism Awards ceremony held at Mount Usambara.
The West Rand District Municipality (WRDM) hosted the event attended by several guests including the WRDM Executive Mayor Mpho Nawa.
He said the awards were held to take the time to appreciate the good work.
“Tourism is an important angle for the economic sector of the country and it is all about keeping South Africa alive.”

The West Rand is alive with possibilities and Nawa therefore said that all who live on this side of the world can work together and keep on making it successful.
“To make it better we need to become ambassadors for our city and try to get more investors who will believe in the West Rand.”
He said the municipality has a huge responsibility to create jobs for its people. To ensure that this dream becomes a reality the tourism industry needs to be seen as the catalyst for making it happen.
Councillor Elvis Mphithikezi, WRDM Member of the Mayoral Committee for Economic Development said, “We need to attract tourists otherwise they will go somewhere else.
“We need to move the West Rand together as we as the municipality cannot do it alone. We are here where humankind started and a lot of people would love to be in the Cradle of Humankind.”
Khehla Mthembu, Chairman of the Gauteng Tourism Association Board thanked all the sectors that make tourism work in the province.

“Everyone is talking about tourism, but people do not realise how important the industry is. Over 35 per cent of the province’s economy is generated through this sector,” he said.
“The awards are a good way to help the tourism industry to remain on track and to make them feel important.”
Mthembu said the awards are given to let all nominees and winners know they are being noticed and acknowledged for their hard word.
