VIDEO: Melodic girl power to bloom in the Garden
South Africa is blessed with an array of exceptional female artists.
Get jiving to Mango Groove and chill out to the sublime sounds of Josie Field and Laurie Levine at the Old Mutual Music in the Gardens Women’s Month concert on Sunday 24 August.
To celebrate South Africa’s incredible women, the Walter Sisulu Botanical Garden will host the irresistible kwela-pop sounds of Claire Johnston and Mango Groove, one of the country’s most beloved bands with a string of number-one hit songs to their name.
Furthermore, acclaimed singer-songwriters Josie Field and Laurie Levine also will take to the stage for a varied acoustic set, ranging from bluesy vocal rock to folk-inspired country, amid the natural beauty and diversity of the indigenous gardens.
“This Women’s Month it gives us immense pleasure to toast South African women with this special picnic concert featuring a selection of our most phenomenally talented female musicians,” says Bandile Mngoma, Old Mutual’s sponsorship manager.
“South Africa is blessed with an array of exceptional female artists who continue to fly our cultural flag high both locally and abroad. We invite music lovers and families to come and relax with an afternoon of great entertainment in the company of these true women of substance.”
Gates to the Walter Sisulu Botanical Garden open at 11am on Sunday with the music starting at 1pm.
Things you should know about the Old Mutual Music in the Gardens concerts:
• Arrive early, bring a picnic basket and blanket and choose a prime spot to unwind and enjoy the music
• Food and refreshments will be on sale at the venue
• A supervised children’s zone offering a host of activities will keep the younger set busy
• The Botanical Garden offers a variety of plants that concertgoers can explore to learn more about biodiversity
• Tickets are available in advance on the Old Mutual Music in the Gardens facebook page or at the Garden from R100. Tickets will cost R120 on the day.
