The West Rand is the ultimate area to live in

The West Rand already has so much to offer residents and visitors.

The West Rand is nestled perfectly between the border of busy Johannesburg and the majestic Magaliesburg and Muldersdrift areas.

It is home to two of the five major tourist attractions of Gauteng – the Walter Sisulu Botanical Garden and the Cradle of Humankind. With the famous Lion and Rhino Park also in the vicinity, one cannot help but be intrigued as to what other gems this beautiful area holds.

Shane Collinson, Director of Operations and Complex General Manager at Silverstar is overseeing the development of one such gem.

“Tsogo Sun’s R560-million investment into developing Silverstar will enhance the already present allure of the West Rand. The development is progressing rapidly, with its focus on becoming the family entertainment destination of choice in Mogale City for locals and visitors alike,” says Collinson.

Taking its design cue directly from the scenic foothills of Roodekrans Ridge that surround Silverstar, the development is all about celebrating the great outdoors. The development is set to generate 350 jobs for the people of Mogale City.

Collinson is originally from Durban and when asked why he is so passionate about the area he says, “I’m an avid biker with a passion for superbikes. I love taking Satellite Road on my Sunday bike run to Harties – the views are breathtaking. Our corner of Gauteng is sprinkled with rustic restaurants and speciality establishment including Berlin at Ruimsig that offers delicious Eisbein, Gilroy’s with its mouth-watering pot pies and entertainment offering on Sundays, as well as Maggies Farm – Home of the Chicken Pie close to Lanseria.”

Here are three more reasons why Collinson loves this corner of Gauteng:

Hospitality and neighbourly love: People of the West Rand are kind to each other and always ready to lend a helping hand to their neighbour. They are not lazy at all. They have the spirit of creating new opportunities for themselves and the society around them. The level of respect demonstrated by the people of the West Rand is evident in the way they treat each other, young and old.

“This is my home and I’m inviting residents of Gauteng and beyond to visit this corner of the province; they’re sure to be delighted,” he says.

Get-away venues: The best-kept secret of the West Rand is the great function venues and hidden jewels it offers that you can escape to. Whether you’re after a place to host a country wedding or a fun children’s party, you are sure to find the perfect venue that will cater for your needs. There are beautiful lodges, unique bush pubs, beer gardens and farm houses.

Municipality with a Blue Drop rating: Mogale City’s water is rated as Blue Drop and is said to be rated as the third best in the country. Mogale City residents are very proud of this fact and take extra care to ensure the water retains its standard by being responsible for its preservation.

“The West Rand already has so much to offer residents and visitors, but I love the fact that Silverstar will add to its intrigue by incorporating more premier gamertainment, fun activities and incredible dining options for all to enjoy,” he says.
