Celebrate your heritage by donating blood
As a blood donor you play an important role in saving lives.
September a month of celebrating the birth of new life after a long and dreary winter. It is also the month that all South Africans acknowledge and celebrate their heritage.
“Along with our strong heritage we have so much to be proud of and this pride is shown in many ways. Among them is the pride of knowing you make a difference to the lives of those in need,” says Lebo Seatlholo from the South African National Blood Service (SANBS).
As a blood donor you play an important role in saving lives.
“Your one blood donation can save up to three lives, and you never know when you or your loved ones would be in need of a blood transfusion. This is why we urge all donors to become regular donors. With a minimum of four donations a year you can be proud of being part of a nation of doers.
“So, as we rapidly draw towards the end of another year, we ask you to commit to donating at least twice over the next four months as to prevent any possible shortages that are experienced traditionally due to the upcoming holidays and school exam break.”
To be a blood donor you need to:
• be between the ages of 16 and 65
• weigh more than 50 kgs
• be in good health
• lead a sexually safe lifestyle
• have eaten a meal
