SA’s most eligible introduced

The finalists will have to do their own fundraisers and media drives before the winners are announced at a glamorous red carpet formal event.

The ten finalists for the 2014 Bachelor & Bachelorette competition were introduced officially to members of the media during a glittering evening held at Kloofzicht Lodge.

This year’s finalists who will battle it out for the coveted title of Bachelor and Bachelorette 2014 are Bertus van der Merwe, Rodney Prins, Sonél Luyt, Nirelda Andeka, Rozanne Meyer, Lucy Greyvenstein, Johan Anker, Guy Saben, Gerda-Marie Conradie and Jaco Venter.

Various members of the media, sponsors, mentors as well as judges of the competition attended the dinner. Rozanne MacKenzie, well-known presenter of kykNET’s programme Dagbreek and announcer at Jacaranda.fm was the glamorous master of ceremonies.

Popular artists including Granville Michaels, George Meiring (who is also a judge), Willem Botha and Christiaan Kritzinger entertained the audience during the evening’s festivities.

Ronel Vermaak and Olivia Curlewis of the Cancer Association of South Africa (Cansa) briefed the guests about cancer and the important role the Bachelor and Bachelorette initiative plays to raise funds for this worthy cause. The finalists, all winners in their own right, participated in an auction to raise funds for Cansa. Singer George Meiring also stepped in as the impromptu auctioneer.

A panel of judges chose the finalists in July after intensive judging in Krugersdorp, Cape Town, KZN Midlands and Johannesburg. A training seminar also was held at Glenburn Lodge in August to equip the finalists for upcoming duties and their roles as potential ambassadors of Cansa, should they be named winners of this year’s national competition.

Several events and media launches will follow during the next few months. The finalists will have to do their own fundraisers and media drives before the winners are announced at a glamorous red carpet formal event on 8 November at Silverstar Casino.

The Bachelor & Bachelorette’s chosen charity for the past three years is Cansa. This charity has been around for more than 80 years and not only does active research about cancer, but also informs and educates. More specifically the finalists will be raising funds for and awareness of childhood cancer and Cansa’s TLC house, which looks after children and their families battling the disease.

More than R500 000 has been raised during the three years of this competition.
