Paardies celebrate their heritage in colour
The pupils of Paardekraal Primary School were encouraged to spend a day in their cultural clothes to celebrate their heritage and roots.
To celebrate Heritage Day tomorrow (24 September) Paardekraal Primary School gave their pupils the opportunity to dress in traditional clothing that best represents their heritage.
Joey Meyer, a Grade 5 teacher says it was to encourage the over 800 pupils to appreciate their heritage and never to forget their roots.
“Our school has a huge cultural diversity. Some pupils’ origins even stem back to the Congo.”

To showcase their culture a competition was held much to the excitement of the pupils where some of the best outfits were shown off to fellow pupils.
Meyer says this is an annual event on their school’s calendar.
“The children love to be able to dress up where they can brag about their heritage and culture.”
