Open day full of fun and laughter

The children who ride with the South African Riding for the Disabled Association (Sarda) had the opportunity to show their loved ones what they have learnt at the centre.

It was a day for the children to show their parents and the general public what they have been up to so far this year.

At the annual open day of the South African Riding for the Disabled Association (Sarda), children laughed, looked happy and jumped on jumping castles.

In between the demonstrations of what the children have learned and achieved through their therapeutic riding sessions, various refreshments were sold. Stalls selling home-made products, second-hand books and bargain buys were set up for visitors to browse and buy.

There was also a beautiful tea garden where spectators could sit and relax whilst watching the riding displays and a demonstration by the Canine Search and Rescue Association.

Katrina Evans (Sarda Gauteng’s chairperson) said it makes them very happy when they have a well-attended event.

“This is an event where we also get to raise funds for the centre through the refreshments and raffle tickets that we sell. Without the support of the people we cannot continue and this is our way of getting funds for the centre.”

Jules Hoekstra who was selling home-made rusks, cookies and cookie jars among other said she is always helping and supporting Sarda in their fundraising endeavours.

“We always support Sarda when they have an event of this type that needs some entertainment. This is our way of giving something back to the community.”
