Local rises above challenges and wins Idols 2014
Part of Vincent’s inspiration is focusing on the future rather than his past.
Heartiest of congratulations is what Girls and Boys Town said when one of its own, Vincent Bones became the latest SA Idol.
“South Africa voted for Vincent in yesterday’s (23 November) Idols finals. We were all behind him since his first appearance. We knew he had the winning personality – and he proved he also has the winning musical talent,” enthused Lee Loynes, the CEO of Girls and Boys Town.
The 29-year-old singer has charmed millions of South Africans with his angelic voice since his audition in Durban in February this year – and has inspired and touched many with his life story.
Until recently a church worship leader and being a father to his own family, Vincent grew up in Eldorado Park. Before he turned a teenager his mother and uncle died. This forced him to leave home and he survived on the streets of Pretoria for several years where he faced many trials and tribulations. Then he went to live at Girls and Boys Town on the outskirts of Krugersdorp and a new chapter in his rich life story began.
Vincent admitted to becoming the man he is today because of the support and guidance he received from Girls and Boys Town.
“Vincent is living proof of what love, understanding and discipline can do, and of the good work that has been done here over the last half a century,” Lee said.
Part of Vincent’s inspiration is focusing on the future rather than his past.
“Some of our past is painful but we all need to move on and look towards a better future and fight for our dreams,” explained Vincent.
The gifted but humble star paid homage to Girls and Boys Town, saying: “I know that I am here today because of the people who believe in me. I love and appreciate them.”
“As his extended family, all the girls and boys and staff from Girls and Boys Town salute his latest achievement. We wish Vincent the biggest success with the opportunities he will encounter as SA Idol 2014!” said Lee.
